Halloween - inspired by Matt Pond PA

Always torn, on the verge of go, then heavy sinking into stay. Pacing up and down, locked, unable to decide. Thoughts flow one way. Then, pardon the intrusion.

Doors swing open, inside silhouettes dance against neon orange beams, jack-o-lanterns plastered on the wall turn locked jaws into gaping smiles. Stilets, nails, corsets that give just for shallow breaths. Went to where the people were on a saturday night, to spend time with people we thought we should. And we did all that we were supposed to do - moving silhouettes, pop candy wrappers, smashed pumpkins too loud for your ears. Seems like it always seems where I go I want to leave.

Outside, fresh air resurrects you. Awakens, energizes, encourages, reminds you - if you don’t know or care you’ll be alright. On curbside food stands people continue to work, others wrapped in towels and newspapers sleep to the sporadic taxi honks. Can you shield your eyes? Turn locked gaze into glazed eyes? I thought we were doing fine with our lives. There are people who will tell you there is always something better.

Festivities mound higher, laughter upon overdose, trick, trick or treat - pardon the intrusion.

Halloween - Matt Pond PA

Went to where the people were on a saturday night
seems like it always seems
where i go i want to leave
i thought we were doing fine with our lives
there are people who will tell you
there is always something better

if you don’t know or care you’ll be alright
i heard it’s modern to be stupid
you don’t need to talk to look good

i surprised myself as my mouth started speaking
there is nothing left of my nerves
as i lean over to ask her

pardon the intrusion
could we leave before it gets bad
i might smash up all these windows
and set fire to the curtains
until it goes on and eats it with its blue and red orange
until the fire burns and eats it with its blue and red orange

if you don’t know or care you’ll be alright
i heard it’s modern to be stupid
you don’t need a thought to look good

pardon the intrusion
could we leave before it gets bad
i might smash up all the windows
and set fire to the curtains

went to where the people were on a saturday night
seems like it always seems
where i go i want to leave
i surprised myself as my mouth started speaking
there is nothing left of my nerves
as i lean over to ask her

pardon the intrusion
could we leave before it gets bad
i might smash up all the windows
and set fire to the curtains

until it goes on and eats it with its blue and red orange
until the fire burns and eats it with its blue and red orange
